And they’re off…
My bucket list includes seeing the Kentucky Derby and the Race for the Roses in person. I think I’ll have to use my eraser on this wish as time passes, but I am happy to watch it on television.
How about you, have you been to see the race in person? It’s incredible to think that in 52 years, no horse has broken Secretariat’s Derby record. The greatest racing horse ever covered the Kentucky Derby’s mile-and-a-quarter in 1:59.40. He won the Preakness, run at a mile-and-a-sixteenth, in an official time of 1:53. And, of course, he decimated the mile-and-a-half Belmont Stakes in 2:24 on the way to a jaw-dropping 31-length victory.
Look for the record to remain intact. Meanwhile, why don’t we gallop off to Park and Gallatin counties for some of the Dugout’s recommended Happenings?
