Montana's apprentice hunter program now includes trappers.

The Apprentice Hunter program allows anyone 10 or older to hunt for up to two years without completing a hunter education course. Certain restrictions apply, and a certified Mentor must accompany anyone certified as an Apprentice.

The law amends the apprentice hunter statute to a more general apprentice program that includes trapping.

Trapping is a method used to catch and often kill animals using a device designed to restrain or capture them remotely. It's a practice that has been around for centuries, initially used by humans for food, fur, and other animal products.
