Lee Elia, who managed my beloved Chicago Cubs in 1982 and 1983, passed away Wednesday, a week before he would have turned 88.
The Cubs released the following statement.
Elia is one of 209 men to have played for both the Cubs and White Sox.
In 1982, the Chicago Cubs, managed by Lee Elia, had a record of 73-89. In 1983, his second and final season with the team, the Cubs finished with a 54-69 record under Elia, before he was replaced. His overall managerial record with the Cubs was 127-158, according to Baseball-Reference.com.
Managing the Cubs took a back seat to one glorious day, April 29, at Wrigley Field against the Dodgers.
